About Treatment
The American Association of Orthodontists recommends an evaluation by age 7. This doesn’t mean treatment will start immediately, but early detection can prevent more serious problems later.
Absolutely not! One in four orthodontic patients is an adult. Healthy teeth can be moved at any age.
Treatment time varies by individual case. Typical ranges are:
- Early treatment: 6-12 months
- Comprehensive treatment: 18-24 months
- Adult treatment: 12-24 months
Modern braces are much more comfortable than in the past. You may experience mild soreness for a few days after adjustments, but most patients adjust quickly.
Yes! We recommend wearing a mouthguard for contact sports. Dr. Kim can provide a special orthodontic mouthguard for protection.
Treatment Options

Call our office right away. We offer same-day emergency appointments for urgent issues.
Brush after every meal and floss daily using special orthodontic floss or floss threaders. We’ll show you proper techniques.
